"One of the most exciting parts of working in Property is developing new ways to link the instore and online experiences"

All the decisions we make are driven by a single, simple focus which is ‘to serve Britain's shoppers a little better every day'. We work closely with our Retail colleagues as well as other stakeholders to understand how our customers' like to shop, so we can improve our store experience for both customers and colleagues.

It is our responsibility to look after every part of the store we build. We oversee it all: from evaluating a potential site to building the store itself and maintaining it once it's opened. It's a fast-paced, challenging job and we constantly innovate to get the best results. We often share blueprints and best practice across the business and throughout every market we operate in.

Property remains vital to our future success and the physical spaces we develop have to work alongside our digital platforms. One of the most exciting parts of the job is developing new ways to link the in store and online experiences for our customers.

Property in Tesco is made up of the following functions;

  • Design, Formats and Planning - drives innovation in our stores to create a great environment for customers and colleagues by supporting with layout plans
  • Development and Programme - leads the development, budgeting and business change
  • Acquisitions and Disposals - makes sure we have the right physical assets through the acquisition and disposal of sites
  • Assets and Estates - looks after our portfolio of stores, operational property and investments
  • Facilities - operates and manages all office buildings
  • Group Engineering and Maintenance - maintaining our estate to the highest of standards
  • International Property - a combination of the UK Property functions but focusing on disciplined international growth
  • Property Research - provides insight to give customers access to Tesco where they want it and how they want it

The roles in Property are highly diverse. You could be creating new designs or developing a new layout for an existing store. You might be improving current practices by improving the customer experience, maintaining our portfolio, acquiring land or buildings, managing the programme, providing cost plans, coordinating significant construction projects and always focusing on making things better, simpler and cheaper. It is critical to our work that we support local communities and make sure that our stores are entirely tailored to their needs.

We have a wide range of roles within Property, which incorporate both specialist and generalist skills. Strong interpersonal skills are really important as you will be talking to lots of different stakeholders across the business, as well as the ability to work well in a diverse environment.

We want to offer a great shopping experience for our customers, so you’ll need to be innovative and proactive with the ways in which we can improve – thinking about our customers and colleagues in retail in every single thing you do.
