Joined Tesco November 2003
I was able to continue working for an excellent company who recognized the value of retaining the people they had invested time and money training.
I joined in 2003, when, as a sixth former, I became a part-time Customer Assistant at the new Tesco's Superstore, in my hometown of Abergele, North Wales.
In September 2005, I began my degree at Lancaster University, and through the Students At Tesco, was able to transfer to a store nearby. This opportunity meant that I was able to continue working for an excellent company who recognized the value of retaining the people they had invested time and money training.
To be honest I got a job at Tesco just because I needed some money, but working here has been a lot more enjoyable and rewarding than I could ever have thought it would be. The permanent shift pattern allows me to plan my time around my studies - and social activities! Speaking of social activities, the stores themselves all have their own social committee. They arrange events such as five-a-side football between departments, nights out, fancy dress competitions - the list is endless.
The number of staff benefits that are available are also brilliant. Being a student and working at Tesco also gives me access to the Students At Tesco website. In a nutshell, it's a website aimed at Student members of staff like myself and is packed full of interesting articles and even the odd few cooking recipes, which come in handy when I'm doing a Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen!
