Joined Tesco October 2003
I've not been disappointed with my career here. I knew the company was a friendly, energetic and a forward-thinking place to work.
After I had finished my Legal Practise Course at Law School, I temped at a Tesco distribution centre. This was really enjoyable and I liked the company's ethos. So, I joined as a trainee solicitor in the Corporate and Legal Affairs department. The training contract lasted for two years, and I qualified in November 2005. I was also attracted to Tesco because they covered all the areas of law that interested me - general commercial, competition and Intellectual Property.
So far, I've not been disappointed with my career here. I knew the company was a friendly, energetic and a forward-thinking place to work. The legal team are really professional - but also welcoming. We're also expanding all the time to handle the demands of a business that's continually diversifying.
I currently look after Data Protection, which is another bonus because it means I experience an enormous range of different tasks. Tesco has accumulated a huge amount of personal data from its customers and employees, so it's vital to show that we're a responsible data user, otherwise we'd lose our customers' trust. So, I have to ensure that the business stays legal and acts responsibly. It's a great responsibility to have so early in my career.
