Joined Tesco: November 1992
"What was great was the accountability and responsibility I got for running a section of the store and managing a team of people."
"I joined Tesco as a graduate trainee and worked in a number of areas in the store from checkouts to Nights! This gave me a solid business understanding and I loved the variety of work. What was great was the accountability and responsibility I got for running a section of the store and managing a team of people.
"After six years in different stores being a Personnel Manager, I moved to our Head Office. In the last year I have moved again to the exciting role of Personnel Manager for Talent. I head up a team that help to design and support the talent spotting process, where we look at how we develop and retain talent within the business. This is a group role, so I work closely with our international business too - and have been fortunate enough to travel to Asia and Europe.
"Recently we've been working on delivering a talent section to our People Operating Model so our material and processes can be accessed on the company intranet. And, with our international customers we have to consider cultural variations on the delivery and approach to talent. It's very challenging but one of my highlights this year was having the opportunity of delivering our talent spotting process to our Chinese business in Shanghai."
