"The departmental structure allows managers to have a great deal of responsibility which is both necessary to achieve results and makes you feel valued."
"I must admit that when I joined Tesco, due to the size of its operations, I was concerned about a possible lack of human scale with limited autonomy being afforded to individual managers.
"However, during my first week, I was involved in progressing a project with one of our main Board Directors. This clearly put an end to my concerns about lack of autonomy. The departmental structure allows managers to have a great deal of responsibility which is both necessary to achieve results and makes you feel valued.
"I'm sure lots of other people have said this but there's rarely a typical day which is what makes my role so interesting. I'm usually out of the office 3 days a week meeting key stakeholders in the development and planning process. This may include meetings with council Chief Executives and Heads of Regeneration, Planning and Economic Development.
"The remainder of the week is spent in the office working with colleagues within Property Acquisitions and other members of the team from departments such as Insight, Value Management, Property Services and Store Planning to bring proposals forward.
"The variety of projects we deal with makes my role extremely interesting. One morning we might be addressing a store delivery issue, then in the afternoon meeting with councillors to promote a major mixed-use scheme to deliver regeneration benefits to a deprived community. It's always changing and always challenging - just how I like it."
