Distribution
Operational Support Manager (OSM)

Joined Tesco: August 1993

"Before I joined I was very shy. Working in the store helped to build my confidence and took me outside of my comfort zone."

"When I finished university, I applied to go onto the Tesco Select Programme for Management Development, and was promoted to a Section Manager after only 6 months training! After 3 years, I moved to distribution to widen my experience. While in this role, I supported the OSM and enjoyed it very much. So, when a full-time OSM role came up on another site, I applied and got it.

"To me this says a lot about Tesco. They're a supportive company that have helped me to develop my career. They've also developed my interpersonal skills. Before I joined I was very shy. Working in the store helped to build my confidence and took me outside of my comfort zone. Now I work with lots of different people and teams every day and I really enjoy it. I've had to build strong communication and analytical skills, which I use loads.

"Another great thing about the working environment is there's always an underlying challenge for improvement within performance, which drives us all along, striving to ensure our customers get the best in-store availability. Don't think it's 'dog eat dog' though. Everyone in the team is very supportive and friendly, which all makes it a fun and enjoyable place to work."
