Director, Site Research UK & ROI

Something I feel very positive about is the support for cross-functional moves. It's all about building broad business leaders and it's great for everyone involved.

I started in the Site Research department as a graduate trainee and over the next twelve years worked my way up to become Head of European Site Research. At that point, I decided it was time to broaden my experience and try something different so I moved over into Marketing. And the Head of Stores Marketing role was perfect for me as it was a bridge between the two.

I've since moved back into Site Research and in my current role I've finally got the keys to the sweet shop! I'm now heading up a 50-strong team and essentially it's our job to make sure that in any given location, we've got the right mix of stores from Express through to Extra. It might sound simple but believe me, it's a tremendously complex challenge.

The work we do obviously has a direct influence on the future plans of Tesco. And the recommendations we make will have a profound effect on the success of the business five or ten years from now. The team has often been pin-pointed by City analysts as one of Tesco's key competitive advantages. And it's my job to keep it that way.

These days, the business is moving faster and expectations are higher than ever. But if, like me, you thrive on work hard and delivering results, it's also terrifically rewarding. The fact that I'm still here after 19 years should tell you all you need to know! I've built some fantastic relationships with my colleagues here over the years - many of whom will undoubtedly be lifelong friends.
