Joined Tesco October 2003
Overall, the atmosphere in Tesco is very supportive but also extremely challenging. So, when you do find yourself under pressure, you'll always find someone to lend a hand.
My first role was as a Merchandise Planning Manager on Clothing (Boyswear Department). I then moved to my current role in November 2005. My reasons for joining Tesco were that it was an opportunity to work for a successful company with consistently good growth. It also offered broad career opportunities as the company covers many product areas and operates in various international markets.
On a daily basis, I'm responsible for managing my product area and delivering sales and profit budgets. This requires me to formulate strategy, create ranges, oversee stock management and handle in-season trading. I also manage my own team and work closely with a team of buyers. No day is typical as there are so many different aspects to the job. I experience lots of variety and challenges, interacting with a wide variety of people internally and externally.
Overall, the atmosphere in Tesco is very supportive but also extremely challenging. So, when you do find yourself under pressure, you'll always find someone to lend a hand. As to the future, I'd like to progress in my role and possibly become a manager in a bigger area, or even move into a more strategic role. I'm sure that whatever I decide to do, Tesco will support me and help me access the training I'll need.
