The investigations, analysis and interpretations we carry out in Business Development can change Tesco's entire focus. It's as important as that.
That could mean looking at moving into different countries or creating a new venture. And because a lot of the work we do relates to the business's future plans, almost everything we do is extremely hush-hush.
At the heart of it all, we review ongoing business strategies as well as plans for improvement initiatives, or mergers and acquisitions.
We're mainly involved in research into new regions and areas, planning and modelling, and new business opportunities. We also carry out internal management consultancy to develop new processes.
For example, our findings have led to today's customers being able to buy a TV, mobile phone or complementary medicines - and even shop as far afield as Thailand and South Korea.
Since we never know what we'll be asked to look into next, our remit is astonishingly varied and never dull. The only thing that's certain is our role at the forefront of the company's UK and overseas development.
The team operates at a senior level and has experience spanning most business areas. A number of us also have postgraduate, professional or MBA qualifications.
When it comes to abilities and aptitude, we expect commercial awareness, numeracy and business-orientated analytical skills. Not to mention the ability to juggle and prioritise several projects at once.
You'll encounter a breadth of opportunity you're unlikely to find elsewhere. You'll gain a broad understanding of how a multinational works, and a sound grasp of mergers and acquisitions. Going forward, the knowledge and skills you'll develop could lead to opportunities in country or product category management, or even a directorship.
But just as important, you'll be part of a dynamic team in a business that's changing by the minute.
At Tesco, we value our users feedback and ask that you take a few moments to complete a short survey regarding your visit today.
