You’ll work together with our UK and Group Finance colleagues to create financial plans for the UK business. Day to day, you’ll track how we’re doing against these plans and prepare information that helps the UK leadership team to understand and run the business. With a great view of the whole business, your findings will affect important business decisions. By being in the middle of everything, you’ll make lasting connections with all other financial areas and often speak with our leadership team members
Our role in Commercial Finance is to make smart business choices that protect and grow Tesco’s profitability. To do this well, you’ll need to show entrepreneurial flair, understand how commercial finance works, adopt a hands-on approach and take charge of business results. You’ll be part of a highly independent team and be seen as a ‘go-to’ finance person within the business. The jobs will be broad and challenging, but very rewarding. The key to success here is finding the right balance between being a business partner and a financial controller.
You’ll look after the implementation of the annual business plan – in terms of both its development and its monitoring – as we look to transform the performance of the UK business. You’ll work with both the UK Business Planning Director and the Financial Planning and Analysis Finance Director to define the priorities for the business and scope clear projects to deliver against these priorities – both customer-facing and internal. As part of the team, you’ll be involved with tracking and measuring the performance of Business Plan projects and working with the leadership team to ensure that projects deliver their full potential. The team also measures the performance of major trials across the business to help develop a pipeline of priority projects for the future.
From finding locations for new convenience stores to assessing the performance of new Tesco initiatives – such as Refresh – UK Property Finance plays an integral role in ensuring that money is spent wisely on the investments that will benefit the business most.
Working with our Property and Retail colleagues, you’ll be able to offer insight into how our approaches are altering the customer shopping trip – how often, how much and in what way their shopping habits are changing. When opening new space and developing older sites, changes in costs occur. You’ll therefore have to ensure that factors such as energy costs and depreciation values are forecast and accounted for from the very start.
A role in Telecoms Finance can be varied due to our mixed portfolio of businesses. Our roles include commercial business support, multichannel analysis and financial control, planning, reporting, capital investment appraisal and international telecoms analysis.
A role with our Dotcom Finance team is a unique opportunity to work as close to the action as possible in a business like Tesco. We work very closely with each operations team to help to deliver the objectives of the projects that they’re working on – directly affecting both customers and colleagues working in stores. We support our Dotcom departments, Dotcom Centres, Click and Collect sites and our van fleet to help deliver a profitable home shopping service.
