So when we identified issues in the way we used our drivers and fleet, it was time to take serious action.
That's when the 'Managing Transport Better' project was set up to reduce the cost of transport and introduce standard ways of working across our depots.
An Operations Development Manager, working with a team of three from the transport operation, worked with a fresh food depot to understand the way they were using systems to manage capacity effectively.
The team designed and wrote routines to improve the efficiency of the systems and after trialling the improvements over three months, the new routines were rolled out across all our depots, saving us millions of pounds.
