Being the UK's number one retailer comes with responsibilities. That’s why we pride ourselves on offering our customers the widest range of products around – everything from food and fashion to haircuts and hudls.
We also take pride in the range of job opportunities we have available. We believe that everyone should have the chance to get on in life and that's what makes Tesco a great place to work. It’s an attitude towards colleagues that’s inspired by ‘Every little helps’ – this is at the heart of everything we do at work.
We want it to stay like that as we continue to lead the way in multi-channel retail. That’s why we ask that everyone who works with us is as passionate and ambitious about helping customers as we are.
Our smallest are called Tesco Express, a format we launched in 1994. Tesco Express offers great value and quality, bringing fresh food as close as possible to home and work. We’ve designed Express stores for top-up and small shopping visits, selling what people want, when they want it — on average our customers complete their shopping trip in under five minutes.
Our Metro stores offer the ease of a local neighbourhood location with a great range of food and a smaller selection of general items such as cook ware and greetings cards.
We opened our first Metro store in Covent Garden, London in 1992, launching the very first city centre convenience supermarket shopping experience, with essential food items and Tesco quality under one roof.
We’ve designed our Superstores to be ideal for a regular one-stop-shop or for daily shopping trips. There’s a fantastic range of food, as well as other goods such as health and beauty products, giving customers real choice and value. Each Superstore also has a bakery and fresh food counters.
Our largest type of store, every Extra offers our customers a whole destination shopping experience. Extra stores also offer the greatest choice — including electrical equipment, clothing, homeware, health and beauty services, and financial services such as travel money. We opened our first Extra in Pitsea, Essex in 1997, and many Extra stores now offer other Tesco experiences such as Giraffe, Harris & Hoole, and Dobbies — all under one roof.
These stores are dedicated to General Merchandise – that means they’re focused on selling clothes and electronics rather than food and groceries. Homeplus Stores include our biggest ranges of clothing, home and electrical products as well as lots of great stuff for kids and hosting seasonal events.
