Working In-Store

Reading through our careers website you'll probably realise that quite a lot of Tesco people have been here for 20 years or more.

Like, for example, our Chief Executive Sir Terry Leahy. And yes, he started off working in one of our stores too.

Of course, not everyone wants to go right to the top. Many of our people have been here as long as Terry, and are just as happy to work part-time or full-time in our stores.

There's no pressure. But there's certainly a whole company's worth of opportunities.

So what's it really like?

The first thing you'll notice is that we always, always put our customers first - which means treating our colleagues right, too.

We also believe that we can fit and fulfil anyone's career aspirations. At the same time, we reckon a career at Tesco can fit with almost anyone's lifestyle.

A job to fit your lifestyle

The great thing about our 24 hour, seven days a week operation is that there's a big chance we've got a shift pattern to suit your life.

Night or day, early or late, full or part-time, and often with the potential of shift swapping for ultimate flexibility - it's no wonder so many people love it here.

The Tesco Values

Working at Tesco means you'll need to share our values - and understand just how important they are to our business.

For example, you'll often find your management colleagues helping to stock shelves. And at Christmas time, you'll find members of our head office team working on the tills.

Tesco values apply to everyone - no exceptions.

How to apply

To apply for one of our store team roles, just pick up an application pack from your nearest Tesco store or find out more on the Application Process page.

We're also opening new stores on quite a regular basis, so if you'd like to find out if there's a new store opening close to you, and the details for getting an application pack, then we have a New Store Openings page for just such
