Store Management Opportunities

Make sure you finish 2011 better trained, fully supported and looking forward to a great career.

Store Managers

If you're big on customer service there's no better place to be a manager. We reckon a Tesco store is one of the biggest, most exciting and rewarding challenges in retail - full stop.

And you'll be a big part of a business that's built its reputation on putting the customer first. But you'll also find yourself surrounded by a team who share your passion for delivering great service.

Why Tesco?

It's not just the fact we're the UK's No.1 retailer that makes life at Tesco so rewarding. We help our 470,000 people make the most of their talents, while they're giving our millions of customers a brilliant experience. From great training, rewards and benefits to a culture that fosters trust and respect, we make sure Tesco is a fantastic place to work.

A great place for ambition

Whether you join us on the shop floor or come straight in as a store manager, you'll grow with us. And, of course, you'll improve as a leader and take on board new skills along the way.

A great place to inspire

Even at one of our smallest stores – a Tesco Express – you'll still lead a team of up to 25. So you'll have numerous opportunities to mould teams in your own, customer-focused image. Do well and, with the size and scale of our business, your options are practically endless.

A great place to shine

We like to encourage ideas and innovations. It'll be down to you motivate and coach your team, to continually improve processes and systems, and to plan seasonal and promotional activities – putting your unmistakeable stamp on customers' exceptional experiences.

A great place to enhance your skills

Yes, you need to bring a lot to the table before you can take on your own store. But there's no better place to hone your already-proven skill at large-scale retail management. No better environment to prove you can work on your own initiative, solve problems, improve results and give customers a first-class service.

We know we're biased. But with a competitive salary, whole host of benefits including our award winning defined benefit pension scheme and breathtaking range of career options on offer, we really believe Tesco is a great place to work.

What you'll bring

It's obvious - we're looking for the best people around. So as well as your thorough understanding of volume retail, you've also got what it takes to motivate a large team. Not to mention managing a multi-million pound weekly turnover, in a fast-moving store.

When and where you'll work

A store manager in Tesco spends the majority of their time on the shop floor, working alongside the team.

There are other important distinctions - like in Extra stores where we sell more non-food than food, or Metro's where we sell more convenience food.

You'll also need to work:

  • Five days out of seven in store
  • Shifts to reflect your store's operations
  • At least 13 Sundays and Bank Holidays in store, each year
  • One week in 12 on nights (in 24 hour trading stores)
  • Twilight (if you're not in a 24 hour trading store)
