The Eat Happy Project is Tesco’s long term commitment to helping children have a healthier and happier relationship with food.  Launched in March 2014, we have been going for just a year and have achieved so much!  We have two key initiatives; Farm to Fork where children aged 4-11 years are invited into stores and onto suppliers’ farms to learn all about where food comes from.  Through Online Field Trips they can also hangout with food experts from around the world from the comfort of their classroom.  So far over 1 million children have had fun on a trail along, as have our 770 store Trail Guides!  Our second initiative is Let’s Cook where together with our partner, the Children’s Food Trust we teach children new kitchen skills and show them how to cook great healthy recipes.  So far over 3,500 children have been cooking with us and we’ve exciting to plans to reach many many more! 

The purpose of the role is to work with key agencies to create educational content that is compelling for children and teachers.  You will also be responsible for raising awareness of and encouraging engagement in our Eat Happy initiatives

You will do this by producing varied and engaging content from activity sheets, lesson plans, curriculum links and teacher packs to leaflets, direct mailings (online and offline) and articles for the EH website or Tesco Magazine.  You will also have to stand over content and comms created by our partners

The team you will join – the Eat Happy Team, is a fairly unique place to work in Tesco.    Every day we receive lovely feedback from teachers and most importantly children about how much they love their experiences.  When you hear that a child with a food phobia has tried food on a trail, or an autistic child with limited communication got stuck in the cookery course it makes you very proud.  And our Trail Guides in stores love their job too – their enthusiasm and pride is infectious.  We all love the project, we get a real sense of pride for working at Tesco and all think we have the best job in the business!

Main Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for ensuring Farm to Fork trail content is engaging and accurate with relevant curriculum links
  • You will need to work closely with Eat Happy Operations to ensure trail guides can deliver the content and support trail guide training where appropriate
  • You will be responsible for the design, copy, print and distribution of a proportion of customer facing comms elements for the Eat Happy team
  • You will develop and maintain great relationships with colleagues in Marketing to ensure successful delivery of our comms plans
  • You will develop and maintain great relationships with our comms agencies to ensure they feel part of the team and are in tune with Eat Happy, delivering right first time copy, and evolving our comms and design to ensure it is vibrant and fresh

Ideal candidate

  • To succeed in this role you will need to have had previous work experience in a communications role
  • It is essential for you to have good written skills and be able to write copy following brand guidelines
  • And it is also essential for you to have an attention to detail
  • You will be organised and be able to prioritise effectively
  • You will be have good written and verbal communication skills to enable you to work effectively with internal colleagues and our agencies
  • Previous experience of managing people will be helpful however this is not essential
  • Knowledge of the education sector would also be advantageous

The position will be based at our Head Office in Welwyn Garden City.  Free parking is available, we are connected to London Kings Cross with a fast service (c. 25mins) and our offices include gym, canteen, petrol and dry cleaning services.
