About the role

The Instore Technology team is a team of Engineers, Product Management, UI/UX Design and analytics specialists responsible for managing the development of all the digital customer interfaces in Tesco stores. Across all formats of store, and all 3 regions in the UK, Europe and Asia.

Product streams within the Instore Technology Team include but is not limited to; shopping apps, shelf edge displays, checkouts (manned and self-service), petrol pumps, kiosks, customer analytics and service desks.

You will be responsible for

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

  • Engage key stakeholders across the Tesco operations and business development teams - define the right digital strategy for each of our regions and formats.
  • Customer analytics strategy
  • Next generation retail store
  • Approach to link the online and offline customer shopping experience and maximise the convenience to customers of Tesco multichannel business
  • Define and execute product strategy aligned to the above outcomes
  • Define and track performance against customer and business KPIs
  • Take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of relevant employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows best practice policies and procedures.
  • Oversees & co-ordinates the development through each stage of the product life cycle
  • Manages the roadmap and development plan
  • Coordinates input to/from UX and Technology teams
  • Primary resource to resolve smaller customer oriented design decisions or determines areas for investigation by data team
  • Ensures understanding and communication of requirements throughout project
  • Removes impediments and ensures that the right product is delivered
  • Help others across the organization
  • This role will best suit an individual who enjoys working as part of a team, is well organised, pragmatic and a lateral thinker with an inquisitive mind who is motivated to make change for the better and, most importantly, puts our customers first.

You will need

You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:

  • Articulating a complex product strategy in terms of consumer and business value.
  • Experience and understanding of agile techniques to deliver world beating products
  • Working effectively with and leading multi-disciplinary teams and understanding how to contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Thinking at a conceptual level across a number of platforms (web, mobile, tablets, PC).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – you must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Experience of communicating effectively at CxO level.
  • Experience leading a Product Team and/or work completed from external agencies to ensure the highest standards are met.
  • The ability to influence without authority.
  • Extensive experience in a product position with at least 2 as a team leader
  • Bachelors degree or demonstrable experience required advanced degree a plus.



  • Flexibility, ability to plan and organise, responsiveness, creativity, self-starter 
  • Able to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation.
