This role will be to lead the team that sets the global vision and roadmap for all our fulfilment systems whether they be in a depot, fulfilment centre or store. Main Responsibilities

The Role – Head of Product, Fulfilment Points  
Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

 

  • Accountable for the Fulfilment Points technology products across Tesco, involving multiple internal/external stakeholders, driving product strategy, roadmap and execution by leading a team of talented Product Mangers.
  • Understand customers and business stakeholders and their pain points really well and steer the team in the right direction by putting best team members in the most value generating products/business priorities.
  • Set clear goals and KPIs for team members and periodically review all the KPIs owned by the team spanning across multiple products. 
  • Accountable for the products in your area hitting the agreed KPI’s.
  • Act as an advisor to the Director on team-related issues and strategic direction of the team and for overall portfolio of products required to deliver the business strategy within the unit.
  • Handle conflicting priorities really well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented, opinionated team.
  • Identify and remove impediments faced by the team by working with the Director and other stakeholders, proactively flagging off any risks/delays in commitments.
  • Contribute in capability and capacity planning for Product Management to ensure capacity to deliver work.
  • Build and nurture a great team of Product Managers.
  • Motivate the team by ensuring they have fulfilling roles, proper rewards and recognition strategies.
  • Conduct fair performance appraisal and provide constructive feedback for team/individuals to improve and facilitate the development of individuals in the team.
  • Collaborate with Director to understand future demand and direction.
  • Understand the concepts of Systems Thinking and apply it to organize Products/Services and Teams accordingly.
  • Lead discussions on the delivery of key programmes/initiatives and ensure all the resources are aligned towards delivering those and work towards resolving any bottlenecks/risks.
  • Manage resources within the constraints of the budget provided/allocated and effectively utilize available capacity across different ownership areas to drive prioritized work.
  • Maintain and establish new relationships with suppliers and business partners relating to the product portfolio.
  • Work with engineering leaders to ensure the Product team capabilities are in sync the technical strategy, keeping future roadmap/likely requirements into account and build team capabilities accordingly.
  • Responsible for making build vs buy decisions in collaboration with senior technology counterparts based on what is best for the product strategy.
  • Play a major role in the interview processes for Product positions and champion 'raising the bar' on the capability of the product family.
  • Create a culture of innovation and continuous improvement of delivery methodologies.

Ideal candidate

Key Skills and Experience
You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:

  • Setting the product vision & road map for supply chain & fulfilment systems.
  • Have proven success in leading a cross functional team of highly talented and opinionated Product Managers across various geographies and delivering multiple products (at least one new product/idea) from conception to go-live, through standard software product development lifecycle and got measurable success across defined KPIs.
  • Experience in setting product objectives, goals and KPIs/metrics and leading the team to either achieve or exceed them.
  • Experience making build vs. buy decisions and vender selection in the past.
  • Demonstrate considerable expertise and experience in Product Management and can drive the strategy and direction of multiple complex products.
  • Experienced in capacity planning, forecasting and working with senior stakeholders to understand future demands and align allocation/ hiring.
  • Efficient in stakeholder management and has ability to steer the team in the right direction by putting best team members in the most value generating products/ business priorities.
  • Knowledge and experience of product management best practice and methodologies and strong technical acumen.
  • Technically competent to influence and understand the solution context and approach and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested.
  • Understand the impact of Tech debt and the value Tech upgrades can bring in, and can hold objective conversations with technology counterparts to prioritize it during any sprint.
  • Have great prioritization and decision making skills and have made good decisions/ judgements around business priorities and resource allocation, etc.
  • Experience in conducting fair appraisals and handling conflicts.
  • Experience in building/hiring, grooming a team of Product Managers, UX/UI and Data Analysts.

The position will be based at our Technology Centre in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. As our fulfilment centers & depots are across the world there will be some expectation of travel.
