About the role

This role involves  ensuring workers and communities rights are respected throughout our supply chain. You would work alongside commercial colleagues to bring affordable sustainable products to our customers.

You will be responsible for

  • Working closely with our Carwash franchise partner, Waves, to ensure workers’ rights are fully respected in what is a challenging industry;
  • Working closely with Tesco Distribution, Operations and People teams, and with suppliers and service providers, to ensure agency workers’ rights are fully respected in our Distribution centres, offices and operations;
  • Working closely with Procurement teams to ensure the rights of suppliers’ workers in our supply chain for goods not for resale are fully respected;
  • Setting clear requirements and expectations for suppliers including labour agency providers;
  • Providing training for Tesco teams and suppliers on risks and responses to modern slavery;
  • Providing strategic oversight of a risk-based audit programme, and monitoring ethical audit results to understand risks identified and ensure they are resolved;
  • Responding to human rights issues and identifying opportunities to strengthen our due diligence and systems in response to them.
  • Providing high quality analysis, identifying priority issues and providing recommendations, enabling Tesco to manage reputational and supply risk by focussing resources
  • Developing and presenting the business case for responsible sourcing solutions & improvement processes to drive effective internal and external buy in
  • Contributing to our team and taking initiative to support where needed
  • Building strong relationships with colleagues across the business
  • Managing relationships with external stakeholders and developing sector-wide solutions where appropriate
  • Developing the right communication and training materials to support successful implementation and long term sustainability of solutions developed
  • Managing and driving the successful implementation of improvement projects in collaboration with commercial and technical colleagues so that responsible sourcing is efficiently imbedded within these teams
  • Responding to enquiries from the media, NGOs and investors, providing input to Tesco’s corporate responsibility reporting and helping to gain recognition for Tesco as a trusted leader
  • Following the Tesco Business Code of Conduct, always acting with integrity and due diligence

You will need

  • Track record of delivering change. Strong collaborative and problem solving skills essential.
  • Previous experience of working on labour standards and/or human rights issues

  stakeholders (NGO's, trade unions, media etc.)
