About the role

In this role you will lead the sustainable packaging agenda, working with industry to innovate, develop and introduce new solutions into the retail market. A broad role championing materials, design, reduction, retrieval, recycling, education and advocacy.

You will be responsible for

The right person for this role will have a passion for sustainability and a proven understanding of packaging materials, structural design and print processes. Experience in food packaging is preferred. Simplifying technical subjects and communicating and influencing senior stakeholders is a key part of the role.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Aligning to legislation and staying ahead of changes (including consultation submissions)
  • Working with experts, scientists and packaging/product suppliers across the globe to deliver innovative and sustainable packaging solutions for the Tesco product portfolio, ensuring that they meet stringent safety, quality and ethical requirements
  • Collaborating with retailers and suppliers to develop new solutions to improve the sustainability agenda and generate closed loops
  • Staying at the forefront of the packaging agenda, collaborating with industry working groups and governing bodies,  utilising new materials and design solutions
  • Presenting internally and Externally representing Tesco at events, workshops and seminars 
  • Leading natural work teams containing functional experts from across the business and the wider industry
  • Developing, leading and supporting a high performing team giving them the opportunities to be their best

Relevant Experience:

  • Packaging industry experience (essential)
  • Materials Science Education
  • Working with packaging suppliers to innovate
  • Delivering complex projects
  • Financial management
  • Understanding of risk and risk assessment
  • External speaking/engagements
