About the role

Working within the Property function, you will be part of the Location Planning team, where you can expect to be at the heart of driving growth across our Portfolio by playing a key role in optimising our Property investments.  It’s an exciting time to be part of a team who are integral to identifying growth opportunities and driving Property strategy, enabling Tesco to shape its estate for the future.

You will be responsible for

Within the Location Planning team, you will be responsible for supporting Property & the wider Business to make the right investment decisions to shape our estate for the future. Using our passion for understanding customer behaviour in a spatial context, we ensure locational and local catchment characteristics are reflected in every decision we make.


As a Location Planning Executive, you will have the opportunity to use your analytical skills to interrogate and interpret spatial, financial & property data, enabling Property to make better portfolio investment decisions to help shape our estate for the future.


Key responsibilities


  • Supporting the Property Cycle and approval process for all new site, asset optimisation and disposal opportunities by delivering sales forecasts, using local catchment knowledge and insight of how our stores trade.
  • Supporting the Location Planning managers with our store portfolio strategy for the next 3 years and beyond, highlighting local areas for growth and clearly communicating this to stakeholders.
  • Having an in-depth understanding of a region of the UK, engaging with the Customer Insight, Retail and Property teams to provide a local understanding of stores, competition and catchments.
  • Input locational/spatial analysis into strategic business projects and investment decisions, utilising analytical techniques and logic to present data and recommendations in a simple format.
  • Supporting the Location Planning team with day to day processes and team administration.


You will need

Relevant experience:

  • Recent graduate with a Degree in Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Statistics, Business or Operational Research
  • Experience of analytical/insight role that incorporates understanding of financial, property and/or spatial data

Operational skills:

  • Ability to interpret data, using basic analytical techniques
  • Ability to present analysis in clear and engaging ways to senior stakeholders
  • Data manipulation skills (eg. Excel, SQL)
  • Good Powerpoint skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Must have full driving licence for site and store visits


  • Understanding of statistical techniques and the ability to apply these
  • Previous use of Alteryx
  • Previous experience of using GIS (ArcGIS preferably)
