PhD Internship - Data Science

Welwyn Garden City/ Farringdon

About the role

The Tesco Data Science team are offering 10-week internships for PhD students within the team. The start date for each internship is flexible but must be between May and July 2019.

The Data Science team sits centrally with the Technology function with a remit facing out across the business. Our core work involves integrating and analysing internal and external data sources, building models that learn from the data, and providing tools that allow the business to make decisions from these models. For example, we have worked on;

  • Building search and recommender Systems for our web portfolio
  • Optimising space and range within our stores
  • Optimising online prices
  • Optimising delivery routes for our vans and routes for our pickers
  • Developing new forecasting systems

We focus on solving complex real-world business problems that require an advanced understanding of statistics and algorithms. We always work alongside commercial teams to ensure that our work creates immediate, tangible and measurable business impact, via innovations deployed in the business within a 6 to 12-month timeframe.
