About the role

As the Global Head of Workplace Technology you are an integral part of Tesco Technology's overall Workplace Technology and Core Services function. You have accountability in terms of cost, people management, the quality of the team’s outputs/solutions and devising its technology direction. You are technically proficient and are focused on developing a team that builds and supports the technical work in the most efficient and optimal manner. You plan, manage and monitor strategic multi-year initiatives and are focused on user centric solution that make the everyday easier for our colleagues.

You should be comfortable talking to C-level stakeholders and are able to relate at all levels of the organisation. Building compelling business cases and leading the team through change will be a key asset that will enable your success.

You will be responsible for

As a manager and leader I translate the strategy into action, executing relevant plans brilliantly and am the 'go to' person for all things Workplace.

I am able to influence at all levels of the business and am comfortable making decisions without all the required information available.

Being able to explain our purpose and why the team exists, clarify how we achieve our goals and define what needs done is core to success.

In this job, I:

  • Am a leader in my field, I can drive Workplace strategy, I influence strategic partners road maps by truly understand the user experience and how technology can make life easier.
  • Empower and develop the team to make good quality decision and consistently deliver.
  • Ensure operational stability is balanced with engineering and road map delivery.
  • Build a team culture for continuous improvement and an environment where engineers want to work.
  • I will recruit and support the development of members of staff.
  • Ensure my team meets the required quality standards, commitments and objectives
  • Drives adoption of new tools and techniques being able to understand their value and impact.
  • Build a team with structure and capabilities to support incidents in live and support the relationship to Engineering.
  • Keep my technical skills up to date and keep track of new technologies, processes, understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider Tesco.
  • Manage team performance and improve capabilities by defining training plans, objectives, providing feedback.
  • Managing external suppliers and responsible for measuring as well as improving service provided.
  • Managing stakeholder communication and escalations.
  • Represent the Infrastructure/systems department across all of Technology.
  • Ensure that right changes are approved and implemented by team in production systems.
  • Work closely with the product team to ensure data-based decision are made to drive road maps and colleagues outcomes.

You will need

Experience relevant for this job:

  • A compelling track record of leading large teams and developing future leaders.
  • Experience at optimising teams to deliver solutions to complex problems at pace.
  • Strong knowledge of Workplace or wider infrastructure services.
  • Managing senior stake holders and building business cases to drive significant change.
  • Delivery of large-scale change within blue chip organisations.

Systems:

  • Office 365 (Mail, Teams, Stream, Flow etc).
  • Active Directory and Authentication.
  • Client Engineering (Windows 10, Mac OS, SCCM, Casper, MDM, Desktop Monitoring).
  • Citrix (VDI and app virtualisation) \ VMWare Horizon.
  • Video Conferencing & Telephony Service.

Areas of responsibility

  • Service Desk and provisioning services.
  • Desktop and Genuis Bar type support including service management of outsourced commodity services.
  • Contract management (£10m+).
  • Programme Management (£10m+).
  • Product Management coupled with adoption and change services.
  • Operational support for mission critical services that allow Tesco to function.

The team covers 1st, 2nd and 3rd line services and the full lifecycle of workplace technology. The main team is split between Tesco staff in the UK and India as well as strategic vendors that provide commodity services. This a global role and has a level of operational responsibility for Central Europe and Asia working with the local teams in those countries.

Uniquely the team encompass the full life cycle of services; giving them autonomy to make decisions and then execute their plans without having to go through levels of approval, enabling the team to move fast and drive positive change within Tesco.
