About the role

Channel & Colleague Insight is an established team sitting at the heart of the future of stores and digital for Tesco. They are responsible for drawing insights from data sets like the Clubcard programme, research agencies and linking to other internal and external sources of data and distilling the results to meaningful recommendations that add value to the business. Their core goals are to:-

  • Understand customers and their changing behaviours across retailing channels
  • Constantly look for opportunities to optimise what Tesco can offer to the customer
  • -Develop the right customer segmentations to bring customer behaviour to life
  • -Measure the health of the business through its customers and the best measures of success
  • Predict future customer behaviour by understanding current trends
  • It’s a fascinating set of data if you like detail and are passionate to get to the bottom of things.

You will be responsible for

This role involves standing over a range of customer analytics projects across our Tesco channels and reports to the Head of Channel & Colleague Insight. It will be your responsibility to create insight to inform strategies that grow the value of new propositions, make recommendations to enhance & improve existing propositions, and help us on our journey to max the mix and improve the profitability of each of our channels. This role faces into a senior and varied stakeholder set across a broad portfolio of business plan projects, it requires effective communication and stakeholder management in addition to expert analytical and people management skills.

As an Insight Manager:-

  • I produce concise recommendations to influence the leadership
  • I contribute to defining the requirements and scope of analytical and customer/market research projects
  • I use data with narrative to influence strategic decisions
  • I will be rigorous with my analysis and present data with impact
  • I will ensure the analysis and research carried out by my team is rigorous
  • I work with colleagues to extract and understand data from other departments
  • I lead, manage and develop my team members

You will need

The Skills & Experience (a breadth of the following)


Degree in a numerate subject


  • SQL (must have)
  • Excel / VBA, Tableau
  • Data interpretation
  • Modelling and Data Analysis
  • Constructing agency  research briefs


  • Must have experience of leading a team & prioritising conflicting workloads
  • Experience of managing senior stakeholders
  • Experience of retail or FMCG would be welcome
  • Managing relationships and work plans with agencies
  • A good understanding of the P&L is desirable
