About the role

Are you a recently or upcoming Trading Standards practitioner looking to begin a career in Retail?

Or are you an already established Officer looking for a change?

We have a exciting opportunity to join our Regulatory and Compliance team at Tesco. In this role you will support the Regulatory Compliance managers to ensure the business complies with regulatory requirements and responds appropriately to enforcement interventions.

You will be responsible for

Supporting Regulatory Compliance managers by:

  • Supporting development and implementation of regulatory policy, requirements and standards in the areas covered by Trading Standards and Environmental Health
  • Responding to queries from technical teams and other key internal stakeholders on regulatory compliance matters, especially in areas covered by Local Authority regulation.
  • Horizon scanning to detect emerging risks and changing legislation relevant to the business
  • Acting as a liaison point for contact from Trading Standards Officers and Environmental Health Officers and investigating matters raised by them.
  • Trend spotting on referral data received through Primary Authority and other data sources.
  • Assisting in the achievement of “assured advice” in areas of key regulatory risk.
  • Assistance in preparing cases for Court.
  • Keeping up to date with regulatory compliance matters to ensure the business continues to trade legally.

  • Internal – PRC Teams, Category Technical Teams, Communications, Corporate Affairs,  Customer Services, Legal
  • Industry bodies: BRC,
  • Government: FSA, Defra, BIS, BEIS, Primary Authority Partners

You will need

Operational Skills:

  • Relevant Trading Standards / Environmental Health Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under own initiative

Relevant Experience:

  • Experience of Local Authority regulation
  • Prioritisation skills and an ability to manage competing demands on time
  • Delivery to agreed deadlines
  • Comfortable with spreadsheet and  database applications
