About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for a litigator to join our team working on a wide range of contentious and regulatory matters across the Group and within the UK. This role offers a unique opportunity to join a highly regarded legal team that is central to a dynamic, fast moving retail business.
The litigation team supports on contentious issues across the Group, so the successful candidate will get exposure to a huge variety of business areas, including key areas such as Product, Customer and Channels as well as supporting our international teams. You will work as a team on larger matters, but also manage your own diverse case load in an exciting and dynamic environment. You will be
expected to influence stakeholders and provide commercial and legally robust solutions.
Your role is to balance legal risk and commercial benefit, to provide timely and clear legal advice that is solution-driven. The role involves a good breadth of work across a range of civil and criminal matters.

You will be responsible for

  • Advising on civil litigation and pre-litigation contentious matters across our diverse business.
  • Working with our Group Safety and Group Quality teams to advise on regulatory investigations and material local authority enforcement actions.
  • Working as a team with the other Group litigators on larger, more complex disputes.
  • Acting as a litigation contact for our Customer Engagement Centres and for managing the resolution of smaller claims.
  • Providing support to the wider Legal team on an ad hoc basis.
  • Management of external law firms where necessary.
  • Considering stakeholders concerns and spotting other issues: working with the business (not just for them) and adding value.
  • Delivering litigation-related training across the business.

You will need

  • A qualified litigation lawyer, with a wide variety of civil litigation experience.
  • Some experience of environmental health/health & safety enforcement actions would be helpful, but not essential as training will be provided in role.
  • A pro-active self-starter who is willing to learn and able to work autonomously.
  • Able to be efficient under pressure as there is a large and varied workload, often under significant time pressure.
  • We work in a collaborative environment of constructive challenge and open debate, so your style should be robust and effective.
  • An excellent academic background and relevant experience gained at a top tier firm or inhouse.
