About the role

We are currently seeking a Programme Planning and Controls Manager to join a newly appointed team within our Programme Management Office. 

This is a great opportunity to work with a small group of talented individuals and by supplying your expertise and support on planning, you will be critical to the success of the PMO function and programme overall.  

Working alongside a team of three other managers and reporting directly to the Head of PMO, the role will have line management responsibility for a PMO Officer whilst supporting the Planning and Governance Managers on a daily basis.  

The role will be principally based at Head Office in Welwyn Garden City but some flexibility regarding travel is required and home working is available. 

 

You will be responsible for

• Develop planning standards, templates and procedures 
• Communicate and maintain a consistent set of plans (at both programme and workstream level) as the programme progresses
• Develop and maintain the mechanism to ensure all workstream planning is integrated and can be swiftly and accurately summarised to a programme level showing the status of:
  - Key activities and milestones;
  - Inter-dependencies;
  - Variance against committed baselines;
• Provide expert support on the analysis and manipulation of data necessary to deliver high-quality management information to dashboards reviewed at a variety of governance forums
• Ensures the maintenance and action of a log of changes required, to standards and procedures
• Ensures project management process documentation is maintained
• Ensures adherence to PMO practices and standards 
• Working collaboratively with PMO colleagues to ensure alignment across:
  - Governance and Assurance
  - Financial controls and status;
  - Benefits realisation tracking;
  - Risk, assumptions, issues and dependency management;
  - Programme status reporting

 

You will need

  • Experience in the establishment and / operation of a programme based PMO function
  • Solid understanding of PMO process, standards and governance; experience of operational management within a PMO function
  • Experience of planning and co-ordinating major transformational programmes involving Human Resources technology change (preferably Oracle, SAP, Workday)
  • Experience of driving change using delivery methodologies
  • Exposure to Agile development environments
  • Proven track record of working and liaising effectively with business users at all levels of seniority and influencing in a matrix structure
  • Strong presentation skills with the gravitas and presence to work with senior stakeholders
  • Holder of a recognised programme or project management accreditation 
  • Good knowledge and user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, Teams and other collaboration tools
  • Good attention to detail and comfortable working with large amounts of data and juggling priorities
  • Results-oriented and customer-focused, able to interact and communicate at all levels

Previous experience of working in a HR or People function would be advantageous as would previous retail experience, but not essential.
