About the role

Job Introduction


As a team we are accountable for helping set the direction for the Finance & Property application estate across our UK and global operations.  We cover everything from core ERP applications, through to niche products managing unique retail industry processes. As a group we work closely with the business, engineering, and architecture communities to make sure that the directions we propose for our products are strategic and aligned with business priorities.  This is a new and challenging area within Tesco and keeping the product roadmap in line with what the business wants to achieve is critical. Alongside this, we need to align with the objectives of our technical teams. The result is that the Product team has a key role to play in shaping the future direction.


This role offers a great opportunity to help shape and deliver key capabilities within the global Tesco landscape. The ability to take information from the various trading and non-trading platforms across the Tesco landscape, and ensure that this is reflected correctly within the financial reporting capabilities. It’s an exciting time to join the team as this is a relatively new function within Tesco and alongside the need to manage the roadmaps for the products within this specific finance area, there is also the opportunity to help shape the way the team interacts with its stakeholder groups going forward.

You will be responsible for

In this job:

  • Have accountability for complex/ large product(s)/ that involve multiple internal/external stakeholders, and drive product strategy, roadmap, and execution for that alongside a team of talented PMs and engineers
  • Understand the key business stakeholders and their goals / strategies well and steer the product(s) in the right direction based on business priorities
  • Handle conflicting priorities well, communicate clearly and understands how to drive a high level of focus and excellence across the various business and technology teams
  • Identify and remove issues faced by the team by working with the Head of Product/ other stakeholders and proactively flag any risks/ delays in commitments
  • Responsible for achieving or exceeding agreed product KPIs improvements across all the Products owned/ managed by my team
  • Collaborate with Head of Product to understand future demand and direction of my product
  • Set clear goals and KPIs for my team members and periodically review all the KPIs owned by the team spanning across multiple products and provide feedback/ suggestions on improving those
  • Carry out people routines for direct reports (APMs, PMs) and develop talented people
  • Contribute in capability and capacity planning for Product Management, for my own Product area to ensure capacity to drive work
  • Build and nurture a great team of APMs, PMs for my Product ownership area, based on the business needs, strategic priorities, and level of focus required
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback for my team/ individual to improve and facilitate the development of individuals in the team

  • Excellent facilitation to effectively manage requirement gathering/elicitation sessions with senior business leaders/ stakeholders
  • Supplier management and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, writing effective user stories/ acceptance criterions
  • Great coaching skills to help develop Product managers within the team
  • Great people skills and can gain respect and trust of team members and others working with you
