We have an experienced and growing Product, Engineering and Programme teams who are responsible for building the technology solutions needed to support and deliver the Store Fulfilment plan. The missing ingredient is you, a Senior Technical Programme Manager who is able to work with multiple Product and Engineering teams to deliver increased value from our Fulfilment Platforms now and for the future.

As a Senior Technical Programme Manager, you will deliver highly complex, cross-functional technology programmes that support colleagues and help serve our customers better. You will work collaboratively, influence senior Product, Engineering and business colleagues and lead a programme portfolio to deliver value quickly and often.

In Store Fulfilment the STPM will lead in particular transformational programs which takes us from a current “as-is” to a future “to-be”. We expect our STPM to be able to cover the complete program lifecycle from defining the strategy and vision over the implementation plan to execution and delivery focusing on quality, time and value. The role requires a strong combination of relevant technology skills paired with program management and leading judgement/influencing capabilities.

You will be responsible for

  • Deliver a portfolio of complex, large scale programmes with multiple business and technical risks that will impact the success of key Tesco business priorities
  • Create and track a plan to deliver the programme goals, including the technical implementation plan
  • Initiate and shape programmes with ambiguous scope and uncertain delivery approach
  • Manage dependencies across platform and technology teams to deliver transparency and visibility for key deliverables
  • It will require an ability to multi-task and context switch with ease and building a strong technical understanding of the infrastructure architecture and knowledge of the operations the applications support
  • Understand trade-offs in software delivery, using experience and influencing skills to drive consensus with the Engineering and Product teams to obtain the best value and solution
  • Understand technology concepts, grasp new ones quickly and foresee their implications on delivery  and implementation plans
  • Establish new or improve existing delivery methodology to deliver the programme goals
  • Effectively manage major incidents, ensuring stakeholders are updated with the right information to drive the correct decisions
  • Ensure post incident reviews are conducted and effectively communicate the output and follow up on the next steps
  • Support the long term planning and defining annual budgetary requirements by collaborating with Product, Engineering and business teams
  • Build positive relationships with supplier partners & internal/external stakeholders to deliver software, co-ordinate rollouts or installations, or professional services
  • Add value to vendor selection processes (tendering, agreeing SLAs, warranty periods, outsourcing)
  • Have a strong commercial acumen to lead hardware, software or professional service contracts to conclusion
  • Line managing and providing expert advice and guidance on programme delivery of a team of TPM’s/LTPM’s
  • Coach peers and other roles, teaching where required, on methodologies and programme management tools and coach/mentor on leadership
  • Take a leading role in the recruitment process and make final recruitment decisions

You will need

You should have demonstrated experience of:

  • A proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology and/or infrastructure; having done so across multiple teams in multiple geographies
  • Delivering complex technology programs across multiple years
  • Strong technical knowledge of Infrastructure, deployment architecture and the Software Development Lifecycle to appreciate delivery challenges
  • Deploying both data-centre and distributed hardware solutions to support 24/7 applications (such as WMS’s and automation WCS’s)
  • Able to foresee potential risks and issues, establish a process, facilitate discussion and manage escalations
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation. 
  • Have experience of building credible relationships and influencing senior management & leadership teams
  • Strong Project, Stakeholder, Programme and Vendor management skills
  • Demonstrate resilience during development, incidents or change and continue delivery
  • Understanding of agile techniques to deliver world beating products
  • The successful candidate will have a tenacious can-do, will-do mentality. Whilst being personally robust and willing to challenge the status quo, you will work closely with other team members and must be able to bring people with you
