About the role

You will be a key member of the Category Development team, supporting your Category Development Manager by collating insight, preparing and sharing analysis with the General Merchandise Commercial teams to help create winning customer propositions.

You will love working with data and use it to influence decisions. Thus leading to identifying opportunities to enhance Tesco’s proposition.

You will be responsible for

  • Gathering and analysing market, supplier, competitor and customer research from multiple sources to create insight to formulate the General Merchandise Strategy
  • Collating data and interpreting/summarising actionable insights into reports, with recommendations, for the GM Teams
  • Actively participate in Category Development Projects to support and development of GM Strategy
  • Discover and share relevant trends and pertinent information with GM teams
  • Visiting Tesco and Competitor stores to review and identify Commercial opportunities
  • Bringing data and insight to life for stakeholders through clear and impactful presentations and storytelling
  • Maintain Market wide competitor knowledge and provide insight into Threats & Opportunities for Tesco
  • Supporting your manager to ensure the smooth day to day running of the department with adhoc task as required
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence

You will need

  • Data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Proficient at using systems to extract data and manipulate in excel
  • A thorough understanding of commercial and retail processes
  • Retail industry background (desirable)
  • Experience working with market and insight data agencies (desirable)
  • Customer/ market insight compilation
  • Communication skills (incl. presentation skills)
  • MS Office (skilled in Excel & Powerpoint)
  • High level curiosity and drive to understand the (what and the why) from the data.

Key People and Teams you will work with:

  • General Merchandise Teams
  • Market Data Agencies (e.g. GFK, IRI/ Nielsen data, Kantar and Dunnhumby)

People, Budgets and other Resources you will be accountable for:

  • Maintaining documents with updated data from Marketing Agencies
  • Keeping Competitor packs up to date with current market information and strategy updates
