About the role

The Risk Manager will be part of the Group Risk team within the Group Risk & Audit (GR&A) function. They will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of Group Risk Management requirements for the coming year and supporting the implementation of the Risk Management Roadmap. The role also provides assistance to the wider Group Risk Management team in delivering a step change in risk management maturity and completion of required risk management activity.

The nature of this business partnering role is such that it provides an opportunity to gain valuable exposure to senior leaders across the Tesco Group with the opportunity to present at meetings and contribute to vital risk informed discussions. This central role will cover all of the Tesco Group including central functions (e.g. Finance, Legal) and Business Units (UK, ROI, Central Europe) and will provide an enhanced understanding of the risks and issues that the business faces and the key activities undertaken to address these and reduce the potential impact.

The Risk Manager will gain an understanding of key risk management principles, including identification, assessment and evaluation of risk, assessment of control, annual reporting requirements including FCA and Combined Code expectations.

The role will require a strong level of project management rigour, with delivery to specific milestones and monitoring of progress a key element of both the implementation of the roadmap and the delivery of 2022/23 annual requirements.

You will be responsible for

Supporting Delivery of Annual Risk Management Requirements:

  • Performing a Risk Business Partnering role for a portfolio of partners and risk registers, including Functions and Business Units, including reviewing and challenging the content of these business risk registers to help ensure accurate qualification and quantification of risks.
  • Facilitating risk discussions between Group Risk Management and Business Units/Functions in order to support the business make risk informed decisions. This will include arranging meetings and workshops, preparing supporting documents, and briefing attendees.
  • Preparation of Risk Management papers for the Board, Audit Committee and Executive Committee.

Supporting Implementation of Risk Management Roadmap:

  • Assisting in the development and delivery of the key requirements of the Group Risk Management Roadmap, specifically:
  • Supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the Risk Management Methodology.
  • Developing Risk Management training materials to upskill the business and our Group Audit team. This will include assistance in the design of the training materials (e.g. in-class materials, activities, exercises) and the development of the delivery mechanism, including the use of e-learning facilities.
  • Coordinating the Tesco Group Risk Community of Practice and facilitating effective collaboration and discussion.
  • Embedding new technology approaches including the use of Automation, Continuous Improvement and Data Analytics to providing greater data insights.

Other Activity:

  • Managing change projects and applying design thinking to identify ways to improve the Group Risk and Audit function and contribute to/ help to deliver other improvements projects.
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports and presentations relating to Group Risk Management activity as required, e.g. in response to specific requests from CARO, CFO and Risk Management Leadership team.

You will need

  • A good eye for business
  • Problem solving ability to identify pragmatic solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to demonstrate credibility with partners at all levels
  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Roughly 4-5 years of risk management experience
  • Project & Change management experience
  • Knowledge of the retail sector would be beneficial
