Job Summary

As a Head Of Product, you manage a portfolio of company-wide significance and are accountable for making decisions on the strategy, execution for your product portfolio. You achieve this by leading a team of 3-5 Lead Product Managers and Senior Product Managers.
You are responsible for ensuring that your team contains the product management resources and skills required to ensure you can successfully execute your product’s strategy and roadmap. Depending upon the breadth and complexity of your portfolio, you could have Heads of Product reporting to you, based on the size and complexity of the portfolio.

In this job, I:
• Have accountability for a complex/ large product(s)/ or a complete set of Service APIs that involve multiple internal/external stakeholders, and drive product strategy, roadmap and execution for them by leading a team of talented A/PMs
• Understand my business stakeholders and their pain points really well and steer my team in the right direction by putting the best team members in the most value-generating products/ business priorities
• Set clear goals and KPIs for my team members and periodically review all the KPIs owned by the team spanning across multiple products and provide feedback/ suggestions on improving these
• Act as an advisor to the Director on team-related issues and strategic direction of the team and for the overall portfolio of products required to deliver the business strategy within my unit
• Handle conflicting priorities really well, communicate clearly, and understands how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented, opinionated team
• Identify and remove impediments faced by the team by working with my Product Director/ other stakeholders and proactively flag off any risks/ delays in the commitments
• Contribute in capability and capacity planning for Product Management, for my own Product area to ensure capacity to drive work
• Build and nurture a great team of APMs and PMs for my Product area, based on the business needs, strategic priorities assigned and level of focus required
• Carry out people routines for direct reports, (APMs and PMs) and develop people
• Identify and remove impediments to ensure my team is successful in delivering the committed deliverables
• Motivate the team by ensuring they have fulfilling roles, proper rewards and recognition strategies
• Conduct fair performance appraisal and provide constructive feedback for team/ individual to improve and facilitate the development of individuals in the team
• Collaborate with Head of Product to understand future demand and direction
• Am Responsible for achieving or exceeding agreed product KPI improvements across all the Products owned/ managed by my team
• Understand the concepts of Systems Thinking and apply it to organize Products/ Services and Teams accordingly
• Lead discussions on the delivery of key programs/ initiatives and ensure all the resources are aligned towards delivering those and work towards resolving any bottlenecks/ risks
• Manage resources within the constraints of the budget provided/ allocated and effectively utilize available capacity across different ownership areas to drive prioritized work
• Maintain and establish new relationships with suppliers and business partners relating to my product portfolio
• Work with engineering leaders to ensure the Product team capabilities are in sync with the technical strategy, keeping future roadmap/ likely requirements into account and building team capabilities accordingly
• Am responsible for making build vs buy decisions in collaboration with senior technology counterparts based on what is best for the product strategy
• Play a major role in the interview processes for Product positions and champion 'raising the bar' on the capability of the product family
• Create a culture of innovation and continuous improvement of delivery methodologies

• Good knowledge and understanding of how supply chain, fulfilment processes and product decisions can impact end customers and their shopping experience with Tesco
• Can contribute with thought leadership on a fulfilment product strategy based on current and future trends emerging in the industry
• Is able to digest large amount of unstructured information and bring in clarity and structure for the larger consumption. Is able to see through the obvious and draw end to end product strategies/roadmaps
• Is able to dive deep to support the teams and also fly high to understand and communicate the big picture
• Self-motivated and demonstrates high resilience keeping a strong positive outlook even in difficult circumstances
• Have proven success in leading a cross functional team of highly talented and opinionated product manager, across various geographies and delivering multiple products (at least one new product/idea) from conception to go-live, through standard software product development lifecycle and got measurable success across defined KPIs
• Experience in setting product objectives, goals and KPIs/metrics and leading the team to either achieve or exceed them
• Demonstrate considerable expertise and experience in Product Management and can drive the strategy and direction of multiple complex products
• Experienced in capacity planning, forecasting and working with senior stakeholders to understand future demands and align allocation/ hiring
• Efficient in stakeholder management and has ability to steer the team in the right direction by putting best team members in the most value generating products/ business priorities
• Knowledge and experience of product management best practice and methodologies and strong technical acumen
• Technically competent to influence and understand the solution context and approach and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested
• Understands the impact of Tech debt is causing and the value Tech upgrades can bring in and can hold objective conversations with your technology counterparts to prioritize it during any sprint
• Have great prioritization and decision making skills and have made good decisions/judgments around business priorities and resource allocation, etc
• Experience in conducting fair appraisals and handling conflicts

Desirable: Knowledge and experience of the paradigms and trade-offs surrounding software architectures and software technical design choices.
