About the role

Play a key role in developing and/or implementing the prevention and detection capability to prevent security incidents, or to enable a faster and more effective response to them.

This is across a large and diverse estate of technology assets, both on-prem and in public cloud, from servers to workstations. The security engineer will need to collaborate with security operations teams, infrastructure, and wider colleagues across Tesco to reduce the attack surface. These should meet the needs of the business for usability as well as the appropriate level of prevention and detection capability.

You will be responsible for

Responsible for the design, development and implementation of threat prevention and detection capability, system hardening and secure configuration across the organisation. Your goal is to protect our customers, suppliers,  colleagues, networks, applications and information from cyber-attacks. You excel at improving security outcomes faster, in teams with a mixed range of skills from hands-on through to architecture.

You will need

Minimum requirements:

• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux system internals

• Knowledge of Active Directory threats

• Working knowledge of threat prevention and detection capability (e.g. EDR, App Control)

• Experience developing and implementing application control rules and policies

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across cyber security, infrastructure, and software development teams

• A broad understanding of security concepts; an interest and passion for cyber security

Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Experience developing and implementing application control rules and policies

• Working knowledge of at least one programming language, including scripting languages such as Python or Bash

• Knowledge of attacker tools and evasion techniques

• Knowledge of hardening & compliance frameworks or guidelines (e.g. NIST, CIS)

• Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, cloud security and cloud APIs a plus
