About the role

Are you an existing VMware, Linux or Windows Engineer looking to develop your automation skills?  Perhaps you have already developed basic scripts to automate tasks, or already have some experience with the VMware stack and want to develop skills in Aria automation? 

Tesco Technology are looking for a Platform Integration Engineer reporting into the Developer Tooling and Experience team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated engineer who is looking to develop their skills in automation to help us integrate our Infrastructure API stack, whilst obsessively automating away operational burden. You will also be involved in building and developing standards and patterns for our engineering community.

 

You have ideally started to learn some scripting, coding or automation, along with strong platform skills.  The role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skillset in automation and Infrastructure as Code, and opportunities to cross train in software development, DevOps and cloud native tech – the only limit is your desire to learn! 

 

 

You will be responsible for

Your role will have a focus on high availability, simplicity and scale, and you will need to be able to work comfortably within a collaborative, agile environment and using data to drive conversations and decisions.

 

This is an individual contributor role that does not require people management.

You will need

You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:

 

  • Working in an Agile team and can contribute to agile ways of working.
  • Keen to cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation and bringing industry standards to everything we do.
  • It is important that you understand in depth at least one core component of infrastructure eg Windows, Linux, Networking and Storage & backup.
  • Started to experiment with scripting to automate routine tasks.

 

 

Some desirable skills – but not essential if you have a thirst to learn:

  • Knowledge of VMWare automation (vRA Aria, vRO)
  • Proficient in 1 or more scripting languages eg Python, PowerShell, Typescript
  • Exposure or understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how these feed into a micro services architecture.
  • Experience of working within a DevOps, Cloud or SRE type function, with a focus on availability, reliability and automation
  • Experience designing and working with fault tolerant, highly available, high traffic/throughput, distributed, scalable systems.
  • Any knowledge or exposure consuming or working with REST API’s
  • Any knowledge or exposure to containerisation platforms like Kubernetes (Tanzu or AKS).
  • Any knowledge or exposure to Chef, Ansible, Jenkins or Terraform.
