About the role

The Insight team's purpose is to inspire insight-led proposition decisions by understanding Customers, Colleagues and the markets we operate in better than anyone. Our key priorities are setting the customer agenda by expertly orchestrating multiple sources of data to identify, size and prioritise customer growth opportunities, frame propositions and measure their success.

Robust and agile analytics, research, commercialisation, business partnering, storytelling, curation and democratising insight are our team's key jobs. In this role you will use expertise in Data Analytics to create deep insights about our customers to support a programme of insight that meets our strategic goals.

You will be responsible for

  • Leading the analytics vision and delivery for the Insight Colleague team. Taking business problems and framing them, so they can be answered using analytical methods - diagnostics, models, visualisations, segmentations - against the vast amounts of behavioural, financial, sentiment, market and operational data collected by Tesco and our partners across the Group
  • Developing and delivering analytics, and innovating to continuously improve the team's impact, efficiency and consistency, taking the time to share with and learn from the analytics community in Tesco
  • Passionately work with data to solve problems, predict behaviours, explore customer needs, understand performance, forecast future outcomes and find opportunities for Tesco
  • Balancing short term needs against the longer term benefits of broader team data literacy and increased analytics capability
  • Anticipating future data, analytics and solution requirements and aligning across the Insight team to ensure these are part of future development roadmap. Pro-actively looking externally and inspiring the team to explore new approaches to keep our thinking fresh
  • Explaining complex analytics and science approaches clearly so that they are easily understood by non-analysts and critique others approaches before confidently recommending a way forward
  • Working closely with our Insight team to best communicate insight to colleagues through inspiring visualisations, impactful storytelling and embedding knowledge
  • Manage other analysts in the UK, in Bengaluru or through our wider agency partnerships

You will need

  • Number of years relevant experience in solving problems through simple and complex analytics - preferably with customer data in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong advanced analytics, statistical modelling background applied across a number of areas using both simple and complex statistical models - segmentations, forecasting, driver models
  • Use of big data environments and data visualisation tools (preferably Hadoop & Tableau)
  • Working within a product management environment and agile
