About the role

As a Corporate Responsibility Manager, you'll be responsible for delivering our Corporate Responsibility reporting communications, developing and publishing high quality strategic reporting. Works in partnership with our ESG Finance team to manage our disclosures. Develops leading and effective corporate positions across a wide range of sustainability issues and is a strong advisor to the business.

In this role you will lead communications for our sustainability performance and progress, ensuring our reporting reflects leading practice and continues to demonstrate our commitment to 'serving shoppers, communities and the planet a little better every day'. Through narrative and content, you will lead the drafting of a suite of corporate sustainability materials, including factsheets, annual report, committee documents, and the sustainability and reporting sections of our PLC website.

You will be responsible for

  • Working with other business functions to deliver CR reporting for the business and working with action owners in the business to report progress against our commitments and KPIs.
  • Work in partnership with the ESG Finance team and other business functions to manage Tesco’s end of year reporting, covering tasks such as:
  • Drafting materials on a range of ESG issues from across the business for inclusion within our Annual Report.
  • Drafting, maintaining and updating our sustainability factsheets, including collecting information, drafting narrative and designing layouts.
  • Owning Tesco's relationship with external CR organisations eg. UN Global Compact.
  • Lead on the engagement and participation in ESG benchmarks, leading the coordination of information on select benchmarks and supporting wider teams in responding to thematic surveys and indices where required.
  • Lead the engagement with ESG raters, ensuring their assessments accurately reflect our latest information and work with relevant teams to develop and provide approved Tesco responses.
  • Lead work on ensuring our PLC website reflects our latest positions and approaches on sustainability issues, including developing a coherent and leading position on emerging corporate reporting standards.
  • Manage the PLC Sustainability Reporting pages of the website, covering tasks such as:
    • Working with relevant teams to ensure our published documents are accurate and up-to-date and aligned with other parts of the PLC website.
    • Reviewing website analytics in support of improving user experience.
    • Liaising with website team and external agencies to continually develop and enhance our Sustainability Reporting area.
  • Work with policy holders in the business to ensure that external PLC policies are streamlined, accurate and up to date.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory and voluntary reporting developments and frameworks.
  • Support with preparing presentations, briefing papers and business cases to internal and external audiences.

You will need

Operational skills relevant for this role:

  • Strong written and general communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to analyse, interpret and challenge technical reports and materials, with a view to drafting compelling narratives to support our position on sustainability issues.
  • Good team player, willing to collaborate with various teams across the business.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organisation skills and multitasking abilities, juggling multiple tasks simultaneously to an excellent standard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to build relationships quickly with stakeholders at all levels both inside / outside of Tesco.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Experience relevant for this role:

  • Experience of successfully developing sustainability-related communications on a range of ESG issues.
  • Experience of delivering ESG/stakeholder communications.
  • Close familiarity with wider/industry ESG issues and theory, and their relevance to Tesco.
  • Project Management, with experience of delivering both small and large projects.
  • Broad knowledge of indices and benchmarks is an advantage.
  • Proven experience of managing stakeholders at all levels.
