Colleague Wellbeing

Colleague Wellbeing

Looking after our colleagues means putting their wellbeing first. It’s all about making every day a little better in whatever way works for them. And support looks different for everyone. So there’s tonnes on offer to help you take care of your mind, body and life at Tesco. Explore some of them here:

Work-life Balance

What matters to our colleagues is important to us. And having a real work-life balance means our colleagues have the time to flourish both in and out of work. So from day one, you can request flexible working options to suit you.

Depending on where you work, this can include:

  • Part-time working
  • Fixed/staggered shift pattern
  • Working on a set number of days a week
  • Job sharing with a colleague
  • Working from home/remotely as appropriate
  • Lifestyle breaks (after two years’ service)

Time away from work

When the unexpected happens, it’s important to the take time you need to focus on your wellbeing, without work getting in the way. So we’ve got all sorts of options to support our colleagues to take leave when they need it most. This could include bereavement, physical illness, or your mental health.

Employee Assistance Programme
If our colleagues aren’t feeling their best, we want to make sure they have the support they need, whether that’s for their mental or physical health. So as well as being able to make the most of our wellbeing resources, you’ll also have access to a wide range of experts through our Employee Assistance Programme, including:

  • Physiotherapists
  • Emotional Wellbeing and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) practitioners
  • Work/Life coaches
  • Nutritionists
  • Sleep therapists
  • Financial advisors
  • Legal advisors

24/7 Virtual GP

We want to provide everything our colleagues need to keep them feeling at their best. That’s why everyone – and their partner, and children – at Tesco has access to our 24/7 Virtual GP service. Night or day, here or on holiday, you can access unlimited online consultations with General Practitioners and GPs with special interests such as women’s health.

Occupational Health

Creating a safe, healthy, and more inclusive workplace is our top priority. So whatever health issues you may be struggling with – whether they be emotional, mental, or physical – we can make workplace adjustments. Changes to working hours or responsibilities, specialist equipment – we’ll do all we can to support you to carry out your role in the way that’s best for you.

Financial Wellbeing

There are plenty of resources to help you reduce debt and save for the future. We partner with Salary Finance to provide colleagues with access to financial education, low-cost loans, and Pay Advance which allows you to access some of your earned pay early, for when you really need it. You can also access external financial guidance through the Employee Assistance Programme to help you take control of your finances.

Wellbeing resources

Sometimes searching the internet for guidance on your wellbeing can feel overwhelming. So we’ve got a hub packed full of resources our colleagues can use to look up everything from online tutorials, webinars and podcasts to tips and guides on improving your sleep, diet and finances. You’ll also find more on what support we offer and the various networks and talking groups we have, such as the Menopause Café.
