About the role
Exciting opportunity to join our Group Communications team as Head of Local Communications and Community. Based out of our Head Office in Welwyn Garden City you'll be responsible for all Local Communications and Community Programmes across the UK via your team and directly with local media, authorities and MPs as well as through our work with Community programmes and partners.
You will be responsible for
- Overseeing and implementing a proactive approach to local stakeholder engagement - including local MPs (working with the Government Relations team), local authorities, and media, managing all local media enquiries.
- Management of x4 local communications managers and x3 local community managers, leading and guiding the team to ensure consistently excellent results are delivered and local communications and community programmes are easy for stores to implement.
- Representing the business externally including at public meetings and community related speaking opportunities.
- Shaping Tesco's community strategy by working with Retail, Customer and Government Relations teams so it aligns with the needs of the communities we serve and wider business objectives.
- Leading our relationships with our core community programme partners, including FareShare, FoodCloud, Trussell Trust, Groundwork.
- Supporting the property team with the communication needed to deliver their objectives (including colleague briefings, community consultation and relationship with elected officials).
- Overseeing Tesco's charitable giving and sharing good practice to ensure activity remains strategic and responsible
- Managing the UK Community budget
- Managing our local PR agency
You will need
- Strong background in local communications or public affairs roles.
- Experience in delivering large cross functional projects and project management.
- Experienced people manager with a track record for leading high performing communications teams and managing remote teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to engage and influence internally and externally.
