About the role
Amazing opportunity to join us as Head of Media Relations, leading the Tesco Press Office, one of the busiest in-house press-offices in the UK outside Government, helping to build trust in the business with journalists and external stakeholders through the media.
You'll manage a team of Media Relations Managers and will hold responsibility for the Press Office Budget. Key stakeholders will be Leadership and Exec Teams across the whole business, Consumer PR Managers, and our Media agencies.
You will be responsible for
- Running a high performance, dynamic and helpful press office, one of the busiest outside government
- Managing media managers and overseeing press office strategy, timetable and resourcing
- Managing the handling of media enquiries and ensuring accurate, rapid and well crafted responses
- Working collaboratively with Group Communications and wider business to ensure relevant teams and stakeholders are engaged on media opportunities, issues and risks
- Developing press office capability to build strong relationships with the media and internally, and provide comprehensive reputational support to the business
- Creatively reviewing and developing our media content to provide journalists content that adds value
- Developing 'new media' engagement strategy for Tesco to support our trust-building campaigns
- Briefing and managing external media agencies to support media handling, where required
- Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
- Developing and leading a high performing team, giving them the opportunities to be their best
- Ensuring strong judgement and writing skills across the team, signing off handling approach, lines and content
- Ensuring excellent information flow internally, even when things move at pace
- Forecasting and managing my budgets effectively, always being cost conscious
You will need
- Extensive communications or journalism experience, including corporate communications
- Excellent writing skills
- Great judgement and news sense
- Enjoys working at pace
- Manage multiple projects / timescales
- Proactive and reactive media handling
