About the role

Tesco are the largest distributor of retail fuel in Britain. We are responsible for delivering over 6.2 billion litres of fuel annually to our customers who visit our stores and petrol filling stations. We continually strive to be the best in our operations and processes ensuring that we maintain market leading customer availability.

A 3rd party logistics provider operates the day to day operations of fuel logistics on behalf of Tesco, operating over 120 vehicles and have a team of over 300 drivers who work 24/7 delivering fuel across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The fuel logistics team works collaboratively with our 3rd party provider, commercial and retail teams to ensure that our logistics operations align to the wider business strategy , along with servicing our stores in a way that they have come to expect.

You will be responsible for

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

  • Overall management of the 3rd Party Logistics contract to ensure market leading safety, service and cost control
  • Management of the Tesco fuel logistics planning team to deliver efficient and consistent transport plans.
  • Ensuring the delivery of world class safety standards in driving, loading and unloading practises.
  • Lead your team to deliver end to end Operational Service routines and standards in line with the Operating model.
  • Co-ordinate all Transport plans, KPI’s and resource to ensure delivery and sustainable improvements on all KPIs, whilst achieving operational financial budgets.
  • Co-ordinate and effectively forward plan for all seasonal, trade driving and promotional events to maximise sales at the PFS by ensuring fuel is dispatched and received at the right time.
  • Focus the team to deliver delivery on time to PFS, improving product availability and customer satisfaction.
  • Use expertise and knowledge to identify opportunities to improve the Transport operation efficiency and performance, engaging and supporting the team to deliver these.
  • Champion change share ideas and experiences to deliver results.
  • Build the capability of the management team to ensure that they have received the Operational and Leadership training to do their job and provide ongoing coaching and mentoring.
  • Lead the Legal Compliance agenda to ensure that all Drivers are operating legally and that infringements are rectified, and coaching provided.
  • Effectively manage union relationships across the Fuel operation to ensure that we maintain a strong and positive union relationship that focuses on continual improvement.

Experience

  • Transport / Logistics sector
  • Operating a large 24/7 operation
  • Communicating effectively with all levels of business stakeholders
  • Working within a Unionised environment
  • Ability to analyse data and budget models to understand areas for improvement
