Job Description

Hands on system programming aspects
The main role of system programmers is to install and maintain software. They may have no knowledge of the software and often don’t need to because they just install it. Knowledge of one of these DB2/ CICS and IMS system tto define and manage the environment.
Below are the skills required
- Test new versions of DB2
- Interface with the installation team for new versions and fixes
- Build new DB2 systems when required
- Support DB2 tools and customize as required
- Manage the Sysplex DB2 systems
- Monitor performance and tuning
- Carry out capacity planning
- Provide Support for applications teams that use DB2
Desired :
Endevor – Maintenance and support -
- Any failures with Endevor packages and issues related to processor groups ( should cover all types of components ; COBOL ; BATCH ; ONLINE; stored procedure etc ); space failures
- Understanding and resolving issues specific to Telon online components and processor groups
- Regular health check of the Endevor tool and necessary action if any issues. Familiarise with any of the inhouse tools to generate various reports /consolidate logs
- Creation of new processor groups ( if required )
- Review and be familiar with mainframe SCM code propagations and CI/CD strategy
Design:
Identify and apply appropriate design patterns to problems
Comfortably develop large features
Understand Idempotence
Actively practice the boy scout principle leaves design code in a better state than when arrived
Demonstrate a good understanding of cohesion SOLID and how to apply
Understand importance of domain model and can coherently model a problem domain within a given context
Anticipate medium term (3-6 month) vectors of change and designs and abstracts accordingly
Understand and appreciate simplicity and the value of removing code
Understand design patterns such as CQRS and eventual consistency
Understand how to design for performance at all levels
Development Practice
Automate everything by default
Build a CI/CD pipeline
Automate security scanning and performance testing as part of build
Infrastructure:
Demonstrate a good grasp of multiple operating systems
Demonstrate a good grasp of scripting techniques
Demonstrate expertise in one database & good grasp of multiple data storage paradigms and when to apply other technologies
Understand and can automate PaaS technologies
Understand when to apply appropriate infrastructure technologies
Security:
Write secure code by default
Use tools to perform deep security probes
Understand server hardening
Behaviours & Collaboration
Lead group discussions on design of particular areas
Comfortably present information

Understand domain well enough to work with PO to drive value

Qualifications

Mainframe system programmer with strong expertise in DB2 system programming and other data base related set up . Also desired is knowledge on source code management tool ( Like Endevor)
