About the role

Our engineering and building team at Tesco deliver first class solutions to over 6000 Tesco stores in five countries. We are responsible for setting standards and delivering innovation in the entire Tesco estate including Retail Stores, Distribution Centres, Tesco Banks and Offices. We are currently recruiting Building Capital Project Manager to work within our Property Engineering team collaborating with all disciplines to plan and deliver large-scale capital replacement projects across the Tesco estate

Having great collaboration and communication skills, you will develop relationships with key stakeholders and to drive best practice and to share innovation.

Field Based with travel within the UK. Head Office based in Welwyn Garden City. 

You will be responsible for

Leading the planning & delivery of multiple complex, large scale projects that span across Tesco departments (Engineering, Maintenance, Property etc).

This opportunity will focus on delivering and supporting our Building capital replacement strategy of replacing end of life and failed building assets and at the same time looking at how we can move away from high global warming materials and traditional techniques.

Working with capital and development project teams to lead key replacement projects.

Working with stakeholders across building surveying, structural, engineering, maintenance and development to build & deliver long term strategies and to ensure projects are delivered to agreed quality, time-line and budgets.

You will need

An excellent understanding of the built environment and building technology is an essential requirement across a broad spectrum such as but not limited to Asbestos, roofing, car parks, drainage, retaining walls, floors (solid and suspended), concrete and steel structures and a good understanding of other engineering disciplines including refrigeration and M&E.

You will be required to manage respective budgets alongside the finance teams and demonstrate experience in this.

Up to date knowledge of current low carbon technologies and potential future thinking.

An ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.

A level of experience in design, procurement, installation, assurance and maintenance of building structures would be an advantage.

Previous experience of project management and programme management is essential. 

An up to date understanding of industry standards and relevant legislation.

A strong understanding of CDM and Health & Safety regulations and their implementation.

Skills and Qualifications

  • An Engineering/Building Degree, HNC or similar- Desired
  • MCIOB/RICS/APM – Desired
  • Previous experience of working with industry bodies - Desired
