About the role

We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Product Manager to join Tesco’s Basket Pricing Engine Team, part of the wider Retail Platform Team. Our mission is to deliver flexible pricing capabilities by building a compliant, secure, robust, performant, and scalable platform that provides accurate quotes (prices for a basket) and their resulting invoices to customers and consumers.

 

As a Product Manager, you are experienced in product management practice having guided multiple product enhancements from inception through to implementation and optimisation. This involves multiple internal/ external stakeholders, and you drive product strategy, roadmap, and the execution for your area.  You work mostly with other members of the product team - Senior Product Managers, UX designers, Data Analysts, and engineers, as well as with your product stakeholders.

 

In the Basket Pricing Engine team, you will focus on how prices and promotions are executed, and a price is offered to the customer for the products that they want to buy.  This is part of our Price platform which in turn powers all the colleague and customer pricing and checkout transactions at Tesco.  This is across all the countries where we have stores, and in support of Tesco’s core purpose and values.

 

We are looking for a high-reaching individual who can demonstrate a passion for solving problems, working collaboratively, and adopting technology and change.

You will be responsible for

  • Engage with my stakeholders to formulate the vision, strategy and long-term roadmap for my product and execute it well by constantly managing my stakeholders’ expectations, communicating value delivered, and working through dependencies across multiple products/ teams
  • Understand key user personas, customers and stakeholders for my product and their pain points
  • Understand and demonstrate the features of my product to different audiences within and outside of my immediate product team
  • Effectively document and explain new requirements to the engineering team using user stories, personas, and acceptance tests and help the team in breaking down a complex piece of work / epic into smaller, deliverable chunks of value that can be delivered faster
  • Steer sprint / release planning sessions by working with my engineering counterparts to plan sprints / releases that deliver maximum business value with the least effort
  • Am accountable for tracking key measures of success (OKRs) and the resulting performance/ adoption of my product and work towards increasing it
  • Lead discovery work to understand and drive use cases for my APIs to deliver one solution that can be re-used for them all.
  • Monitor competitor activity and overseas market trends
  • Drive the acceptance and adoption of ideas and improvements with product and engineering stakeholders
  • Present to other Tesco Product areas on my Product and its functional / engineering capabilities
  • Effectively presenting the vision, roadmap, key KPIs and execution plans (release/ sprint plans) for my product
  • Drive experiments against defined hypotheses, created MVPs towards robust data-driven decisions on product improvements and their influence on product performance indicators
  • Prioritise coordinate and communicate the resolution of live product issues independently

You will need

  • Ideally have previous experience in a Pricing domain and / or with building APIs
  • Knowledge and experience of product management best practice and methodologies
  • Proven success of having managed a complex product that led to the delivery of significant value to your stakeholders
  • A methodical and analytical approach, great problem-solving skills and can provide logical answers to complex problems
  • Good knowledge in the use of Tools and Techniques for Backlog prioritisation, managing dependencies and for gaining insights using available data points
  • Technically proficient to influence and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested
  • Attitude and the aptitude to learn new product area/domain quickly
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with peers, stakeholders, and teams across the business
  • Team Player who can work collaboratively with other members of the team.
