About the role

A vacancy has arisen for a WL2 Senior Manager - Applied Data Science. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic and strong Enterprise Analytics team and learn, shape & drive its success journey towards building best in class capabilities and solutions across a wide range of retail topics spanning from customer, product, finance, operations and more.

The successful candidate will lead the Data Development, Analytics & Insight functions for our Customer & Colleague Contact Centres across all global markets. Your teams design and deliver analytical solutions across all contact channels to enable accurate and meaningful management information, create accurate insights and recommendations to support effective contact centre management, and generate compelling and meaningful insight on customer contact reasons. Your team will also be developed and expanded to deliver advanced analytical and applied data science solutions that unlock commercial and customer experience improvements.

Location
This role is primarily based at the UK Customer & Colleague Engagement Centre (CCEC) in Dundee. There is a requirement to travel to other Tesco offices in the UK and our 3 Tesco Business Solutions (TBS) hubs in Budapest, Waterford and Bangalore as needed.  

You will be responsible for

  • Leading the global data & analytics team for our Customer & Colleague Engagement Centres, delivering timely and accurate insight and reporting that enable the delivery of CEC objectives and helps drive strategic business decisions
  • Delivering a robust data development & insight capability in the immediate future, also driving our strategic ambition to expand our reach to include data science, machine learning and other methodologies to increase the level of insight and therefore value we can create for the broader business
  • End to end data development and management - define, design, develop and deliver
  • Influencing, planning and managing strategic change to data development for critical CEC platforms e.g., data capture, ELT routines, data warehousing solutions
  • Accountable for building the analytics road-map and improving the analytical maturity of CCECs, with an in depth understanding of key priorities & outcomes.
  • Develop, manage, shape and own the CCEC Analytics Plan - proactively spotting sizeable opportunities to deliver programmes of work with disproportionate returns, prioritising workload effectively, clearly communicating progress to key internal stakeholders and influencing external stakeholders to support the delivery of the plan
  • Providing thought leadership in scoping business problems, bringing disruptive/depth-oriented solutions to complex problems
  • Partnering with finance teams to measure the value delivered through analytics initiatives
  • Be an advocate for Enterprise Analytics and represent the department in both internal and external forums, leading the continuous improvement of EA within TBS
  • Build impact driven teams by setting direction and objectives that create an environment for success, guiding my teams to craft analytical assets which deliver value in a sustainable manner

You will need

Essential skills relevant for this job:

  • Excellent leadership skills, a self-starter with particular strengths in collaboration and resilience
  • Critical thinking and planning skills
  • Strong communications skills with a focus on data visualisation
  • Understanding of machine learning techniques - Linear & Logistics regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest, XgBoost and Neural Network
  • Knowledge of Python, SQL, Hive and visualization tools (Tableau)
  • Leadership of broad, multi-function teams with 10+ colleagues
  • Desirable skills relevant for this job:
  • Conceptual application to larger business context, storyboarding, managing managers
  • Retail Expertise, partnership management, Analytical
  • Subject matter expertise with ability to make decisions based on what is right for colleagues and customers
