About the role

This role leads all aspects of the procurement of Property Goods and Services, working closely with the Group Property leadership team and key partners to find opportunities to deliver Tesco’s property strategy at the best commercial value

You will develop more mutually beneficial commercial relationships with a wide range of Property suppliers, driving enhanced value with key strategic suppliers through an efficient Supplier Relationship Management programme

You will be responsible for

  • Leading the Property Procurement team (circa 9 colleagues) and be a key member of the Procurement Leadership team, working closely to support the Global Procurement Director
  • You will be integrated with the Property Leadership Team, with significant peer-to-peer interaction with Tesco’s Property Services Director and senior Directors and managers in the function
  • Delivering key strategic sourcing projects across Construction and Shopfitting, Maintenance and Engineering, Automation and Energy and working closely with local Tesco Procurement teams
  • This role will look after Property Procurement both in our core UK business, but also across the whole spectrum of Tesco businesses (Central Europe, ROI and Tesco Business Services in India) as well as supporting subsidiaries (Tesco Bank, Tesco Mobile, dunnhumby, Booker and One-Stop) in some cases directly and in some other as part of a collaborative matrix
  • Providing a detailed and deep understanding of the supply market across core sub-categories such as Maintenance and Engineering, Refrigeration and Automation
  • Undertaking detailed analysis of vendor proposals including cost, service and capability appraisals
  • Developing standard methodologies and ways of working to further efficiencies and compliance with procedures
  • Constantly challenging the business to maintain a competitive position in the supply market, generate healthy competitive tension to ensure we provide the right quality of product and services, at the best possible cost for Tesco
  • Following market trends to enable insight through market research, benchmarking, supplier knowledge and networking
  • Negotiating prices with suppliers to deliver significant measurable annual savings (in contribution of Tesco’s strategy and group cost reduction plans)

You will need

  • Experience in strategic Property sourcing, with a track record of delivering cost reduction
  • Experience developing and implementing sourcing methodologies for category management
  • Strong negotiation skills. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), design-to-build, and other standard methodologies tools. The expectation is for candidates to have a deep toolbox of methodologies to approach the category.
  • In-depth market knowledge, and a wide network of relationships across the Property sector - both in UK and globally, engaging with suppliers at a senior and executive level
  • Emerging leadership talent with ability to motivate all levels through excellent judgment, professional competence, credibility, flexibility, and personal integrity
  • Excellent line management and interpersonal skills with an ability to encourage trust and confidence and empower the team
  • Ability to successfully manage large suppliers, and proven results in handling vendors and achieving demonstrable commercial results
