About the role

In my Cost Manager role I ensure cost for the projects delivered within my region are best value and I deliver opportunities to reduce cost across the programme. I am accountable the accuracy, quality, tracking and reporting of scheme costs ensuring my area is financially compliant.

You will be responsible for

Following our Business code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence and have these specific risk responsibilities: 

  • The accuracy, quality, tracking and reporting of scheme costs for my area - Ensuring every scheme is delivered for the best value and leading the regions key financial measures to ensure targets are met
  • Investigating, driving and delivering sustainable cost reductions, minimizing costs and maximizing value.
  • Ensuring schemes meet the financial hurdle rates and follow the right cost governance process.
  • Ownership of papers for cost approval meetings, including variations. - Collaborating and supporting regional colleagues, Tesco business solutions and key internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing our external quantity surveyors through the process.
  • Ensuring my area is financially compliant including year end.
  • Working with group procurement to review market rates ensuring we are getting the best deal
  • Leading on opportunities to improve materials / products used from a value and circular economy perspective
  • Some project delivery to maintain and improve understanding of the process to support overall decision making


You will need

  • Understanding of Property and Finance processes.
  • Stakeholder Management at all levels
  • Ability to translate complex data into simple data
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Microsoft office proficiency
  • Understanding of industry standard processes relevant to cost management
  • Analytical / Forecasting / Financial experience
  • Budget ownership, cost forecasting
  • Some Cost Management / Quantity Surveying experience
  • Project Management
  • Procurement
  • Store operations
