About the role

An interesting role focused on further improving controls in respect of Stock and Shrink accounting as well as Pharmacy and larger Projects. Working cross functionally to ensure information reported is complete, accurate and prepared on a timely basis as well as championing global consistency.

The role works closely with the Product finance and Commercial teams at the heart of the business to help understand variances to forecasts and there is currently a big focus on continuous improvement as large Projects launch and we try to simplify stock processes.

You will be responsible for

  • Assessing, developing and maintaining financial controls regarding the accounting and financial reporting
  • Ownership of the Stock, Shrink and Pharmacy finance processes as well as ad-hoc Projects across the UK core business – acting as the key liaison between colleagues based in Tesco Bengaluru, Product Finance Business Partners, Shrink Finance Business Partners, Pharmacy and Supply chain teams to ensure ways of working are clear and processes well-defined.
  • Deliver timely and accurate financial reporting and ensure financial processes operate effectively within a strong control environment
  • Drive improvements in accuracy of Stock and Shrink recognition and valuation, bringing consistency across Food, General Merchandise and Clothing.
  • Share principles and best practice with the Tesco Group business functions.
  • Ensure that the Stock provisions and Shrink accruals are appropriate, both in adherence to our accounting policies and in line with the reality of our store and depot operations.
  • Oversee month end process for Stock and Shrink including any adjustments, understand variances and proactively identify potential problems. Streamlining and improving efficiency and accuracy of the month end processes.
  • Accountability for stock-loss, including Waste and Shrink, ensuring that stores and depots are seeing the accurate values and assisting with associated business decisions.
  • Identification, investigation, and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to improve the control and accuracy of Stock, Shrink and Pharmacy balances.
  • Support the auditors with both half year and year end reviews, as well as controls testing in the interim periods
  • Regular reporting to multiple Finance Directors across Control and Product functions
  • Ensure compliance to Tesco Group Accounting Policy

You will need

  • Accounting qualification with good working knowledge of accounting principles for Inventories
  • Track record of delivering finance process improvements, with focus on implementing enhancements to the control environment (continuous improvement)
  • Great communication and people skills, enabling you to build relationships across a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong desire to ‘get things right’, with the confidence to challenge existing, or proposed ways of working
