Everybody at Tesco is committed to providing work experience and opportunities that go beyond ordinary recruitment.
Whatever their background, we’ll support people on their journey to employment. Because we know that, with our help, they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Helping so many people to find work helps us too. We’ve developed a wide range of schemes and partnerships based on what we’ve learned, which give even more people what they need in their job hunt. So whether you’re not sure how to start a career with us or need support in completing an application, we are dedicated to helping you become a success.
Working in partnership with the Prince’s Trust Movement to Work scheme, Tesco is one of 14 leading UK companies providing a programme of employability training and work experience for young people. We want to help improve the life skills and raise the aspirations of people with disabilities – as well as providing them with opportunities to gain retail experience.
That’s why, since 2006, when we selected it as Tesco Charity of the Year, we’ve been working in partnership with Whizz-Kidz to offer work placements for disabled people. We’ve shared considerable success with Whizz-Kidz in our effort to provide these opportunities: since 2006 we’ve helped the charity raise over £3 million and provided thousands of disabled people with essential equipment.
The work placements take place over two weeks, across a number of departments in a chosen store.
If you’re interested or would like more information, please visit the Whizz-Kidz website: www.whizz-kidz.org.uk and search Work Placements.
Everyone should feel welcome to come and work with us. That’s why we’ve partnered with Jobcentre Plus, Shaw Trust and Remploy to make sure our application process is the easiest it can be.
Our partners provide employment services for disabled and disadvantaged people; working with businesses to create employment opportunities helps people to change their lives through work and greater independence.

Work experience is a great way for you to discover what a real working environment is like.
If you’re a full-time student and would like to gain a better understanding of the retail sector, you’re welcome to come and find out what it’s like to work with us.
Just go to your local store and ask to talk to the Personnel Manager. They will contact your school and arrange an informal agreement between you, your school or college and your Store Manager. It’s that simple.
Tesco is committed to supporting ex-military personnel looking for employment. Over the past 7 years we’ve been working with the Career Transition Partnership to help people do just that.
We attend careers events at military bases across the country throughout the year, letting people know about opportunities at Tesco.
We also offer a Trial Attachment programme: this is an opportunity for Armed Forces personnel to spend up to 5 days in a store or Distribution Centre. On a Trial Attachment you’ll ‘shadow’ our managers to see where you might fit best and help you decide if a career in retail is for you. If you then decide to apply, we guarantee you an interview.
