"You’ll need to be able to put your Tesco colleagues at the heart of everything you do – so they can go on and do the same for our customers"

Our purpose in Personnel is clear: to create the best environment for all our colleagues to reach their full potential. In doing so, we build the culture, capability and capacity to help the business meet its multichannel growth ambitions.
We do this by:

  • Facilitating a simple, honest and human culture that’s inclusive, collaborative and connected
  • Making sure that everyone has the capability and opportunity to reach their full potential
  • Ensuring that we work with the right structures and processes, to enable flexibility and build capacity
  • Leading a core people cycle that values individual contribution, builds teams and minimises risk for Tesco

It’s likely you’ll work in one of our Operational teams. These sit at the heart of our business, partnering with Tesco leaders to find and develop talented colleagues, lead business change and culture, and build capability in their teams. This could be in any of our locations – from a large store or specific area, to a team within Head Office.

Specialist Personnel teams also support our Operational teams. These include: Reward and Benefit, Talent and Resourcing; Organisational Develoment; Academy and Employee Relations.

You’ll need to be able to put your Tesco colleagues at the heart of everything you do – so they can go on and do the same for our customers. And we see great leadership as having five core skills: Empathy, Collaboration, Innovation, Resilience and Responsiveness. As a personnel colleague, you’ll need to have these attributes in spades. Even more importantly, you should have strong values and beliefs, never being afraid to stand up for what’s right.

The opportunities are endless. You could be helping to create a more social organisation – rolling out a new social network to over 500,000 colleagues worldwide. You could be designing or delivering new training that helps us create a new, warmer culture. You might be designing reward schemes that drive the right behaviours, not just the right results. Or you could be partnering with our senior leaders to deliver business change in your store or function. We also work together to deliver our yearly People Plan. This empowers colleagues to do their best in a happy, healthy and high performing team with a passion for customers, products and services. No matter what you’ll be working on, our colleagues often tell us they recognise and really value the difference Personnel make.

We believe the best ideas don’t come from working alone – or even from sitting at your desk. The only way to really understand what matters to our colleagues is to continuously interact with everyone in the business. The people you’ll work with will be varied – from your immediate team to our senior leadership teams, and other teams in the office, stores or distribution centre.
